The Advanced Torpedo Launcher is a level 3 naval tower introduced in The Core Contingency that is available to both CORE and ARM factions, and is the only armed unit that the Advanced Construction Sub can build. Generally similar in function to the basic Torpedo Launcher, the Adv. version fires larger torpedoes with substantially increased power and more effective homing capabilities over a longer range, but at the cost of a slightly lower projectile velocity and a drastically reduced rate of fire. The unit's build costs do not appear to be overly high at a glance, especially when compared to other tech level 3 towers, but the unusually low build time results in an extreme drain of resources while being constructed, with metal being hit especially hard.
The main benefits of the Advanced Torpedo launcher over its basic incarnation are its abilities to definitively out-range all mobile submarines and avoid being targeted by weapons that cannot fire at underwater units, though its ambiguous property of technically being a floating unit with a submerged model causes it to take damage from any weapon that just so happens to impact its location; this property also allows an enemy Advanced Torpedo Launcher to be detectable on the minimap by both radar and sonar, be identifiable by name when in a player's line of sight, either on the minimap or when its exact position is moused over in-game, and be manually targetable without needing to use sonar or the minimap, though sonar is still necessary to make its model visible.
