The Metal Extractor is a level 1 structure available to both CORE and ARM, functioning as the most basic means of land-based metal production for both factions. Metal Extractors will generate a given amount of metal per second when built on top of a metal deposit, with said amount being proportional to the size of the deposit and how much of the Extractor covers it, ranging from +0.8 to +2.1 if an Extractor fully covers the deposit; the maximum amount of metal a single Metal Extractor can generate per second is +2.3, a number which is only attainable on Core Prime maps. A single Metal Extractor will consume -3 energy while it is operational, but can be turned off at any point to stop both its energy drain and generation of metal. In addition to the Commander, all tech level 1 construction units can build a Metal Extractor.
Owing to it being harder to achieve a stable metal income compared to a stable energy income, Metal Extractors are priority targets for raiding teams to destroy at early points in the game in order to potentially stall an opponent's construction and gain the upper hand, further incentivised by the Metal Extractor's lack of splashability compared to the comparatively cheap Wind Generator and inability to take hits compared to a single Solar Collector. As a game progresses and construction costs increase, it is necessary to seek metal deposits outside the main base or replace existing Metal Extractors with Moho Mines, which are advanced versions of Metal Extractors that produce more metal but require Adv. construction units to build them.
Commander's Handbook[]
CORE[]
Metal Extractor Place metal extractors over metal ores in order to collect metal as quickly as possible. The faster a Metal Extractor spins, the faster it is collecting metal. |
ARM[]
Metal Extractor This is used to extract metal from the ground. Metal Extractors are best placed over metal deposits though they can find a little metal anywhere. The faster a Metal Extractor spins, the more metal it is extracting. |
Appearance[]
CORE[]
The CORE Metal Extractor resembles a bunker with a three-ended crank that constantly spins. When switched off, it slows down until it stops, and then it rights itself so it can be lowered into the structure.
ARM[]
The ARM Metal Extractor is more simplistic in design than its CORE counterpart. It resembles a two-ended crank that constantly spins. When switched off, it slows down until it stops.
Trivia[]
- While the CORE Metal Extractor does have its own unique unit sounds, an error in the game's files prevents these sounds from playing.
